Dr. Anandi Joshi (Dr. Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi) pursued her medical education at the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, one of the first institutions in the world dedicated to medical education for women. Founded in 1850, the college initially operated from rented quarters near 7th and Arch Streets before relocating in 1862 to a larger facility on North College Avenue. In 1930, the institution moved to the East Falls neighborhood at 3200–3254 Henry Avenue. Hospitals Associated with Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania, which provided clinical training for its students. In 1886, Dr. Anandibai Joshi made history by earning her Doctor of Medicine degree from this institution, becoming one of the first Indian women to receive a Western medical degree. Today, the legacy of the college continues as part of Drexel University College of Medicine.
